it is a shame that they had to split up. i wish just one time a team in any sport would just stay together to see how many they could have won.

Oilers being one ... the 70's A's and the 90's Cowboys With The Jimmy as the coach....basketball has seen its share.

I think they get bored with it.  After doing the same thing over and over... their attitude is probably "Wheres the challenge?"  Then, when you consider that these are full contact sports we are talking about, I'm sure injury has a lot to do with it too.

I, for one, am hoping that my Patriots don't 'split up'. .. but it inevitably happens sooner or later.  I'm still hoping for later!

When it comes to hockey, how about the RedWings.   They seemed to have gotten it together in two different eras.  Earlier in the 2000's, and even though they lost this year, they are at it again now.

Max,

I do believe the Red Wings let one get away this year. JMHO..!!!

I look for them to be the team to beat this coming year if they stay healthy.

Detroit's problem is they are getting a little old...  need to find some youth.  But I think they still have a couple of stellar years left in that team.  And if the past is any indication of what will happen in the future, that will be enough time for them to find some new players to replace the old guys.

Max ..
I follow all sports of interest. Yet go into withdraw after the Super Bowl.

So you are correct after I did some research on the Red Wings. They have enough there to go another 2-4 years before the play starts to decline a tad.

To bad Dom. H did not have a few younger boys that played hockey and are coming into their own now.....lol

We will have to see how it goes. I still think they should have won it all last year. Just ran out of gas I suppose.

Good Day Max

Hockey is my second favorite sport behind football.   I got into it because my father was very much into it when I was a kid.  He used to love the big bad Bruins of the early 70's, with Bobby Orr, Phil Esposito (or however you spell his name), etc...    That was a little before my time (I was 4 or 5 when that was happening), but I used to hear all about the spectacular stuff Bobby Orr used to do.  I'm one of those few that will argue that Bobby Orr was the best to play the game...

No argument here...yet I would put Howe in the same boat with him.

Does Wayne Gretsky fit in that boat?

No.

Everyone thinks Wayne Gretsky was the best player ever.   Not many people believe Orr or Howe were.  So he doesn't fit in the same boat we were talking about...
