Ware to have surgery

DeMarcus Ware to have surgery on right elbow

Posted by Josh Alper on February 11, 2014, 6:48 PM EST

Last week, there was no elbow surgery scheduled for Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Ware.

That changed this week. Ware said Tuesday that he will have surgery to correct an exposed nerve in his right elbow that has bothered him for most of the last two seasons. Ware rested it last offseason while having surgery on his shoulder, but decided on a different course of action this time around.

ďItís been killing me,Ē Ware said, via Todd Archer of ESPNDallas.com. ďItís hurt really bad and thatís why I would wear an elbow pad to stop from getting it hit but that didnít do much. It would get irritated even when it was barely touched.Ē

Ware expects to be able to participate in most of the offseason program and will be trying to bounce back from a career-low six sacks last season. Injuries, including a quad strain that kept him out of three games, contributed to his struggles and could lead to discussions about the non-guaranteed $26 million he has coming his way over the next two seasons.

It is time to cut Ware loose.  I don't care if he plays for vet minimum, the guy has nothing left.

I know this goes beyond Jerry, because he chooses over and over to reward guys for what they have done  in the past instead of what they can do in the future.

Ware is starting to act like Spencer and Ratliff. Hey I'll get surgery and then won't play a single down.

I hope he is made of better stuff than those 2, and goes out with his pride in tact.

Just looks funny to me last week, he said no surgery, and this week something changed his mind.

It was hurting him so bad, yet he waited until now to do something.

This will take all of the off season to sort out this latest Cowboy mess.

My patience is about gone with this team. I am coming dangerously close to completely losing interest. Jerry is sucking the hope out of this fan base.

I'm interested to see what the cap experts think about these June1st cuts, and all the dead money that's left just hanging.

Before I start yelling off with their heads, I want to see how things are going to play out money wise. The media already called Austin a June 1st cut, I haven't heard a word from the Cowboys yet!

Sometimes it seems to me JJ lets the media make his decisions for him.

Desperado:

as long as there is a next season, to Jerry, Dead Money doesn't matter.

Hawk:

Pretty sure Austin is gone. It's not like they want him out the door but they did draft Williams and the only way that makes sense is for Austin to be gone.(Cap Wise)

Austins whole deal in funny style, he has money already in the bank, and that will be pushed into 2015. When you break down 2014 yes this year you save money by cutting him, but the deal hits you in the *** in 2015.

Averaging out Austins contract 2014 and 2015, you really only end up saving less than 400.000 not 5mil. Yes I do understand 5 mil you can use this year, but screwed next year. Sorry Williams can't do half the things on the field Austin did when playing. Plus Williams does not play the slot.

Austin counts 8mil against the cap, cutting him leaves you over 7mil in dead money. the amount difference 400.000, now you replace him with Williams, gee isn't Williams making more than 400.000? So where is the deal here?

Its the media keeps throwing around this 5mil and a few wanna be cap ******. But only the Cowboys at this time know the real Austin numbers.

In 2011 the Cowboys converted $7,855,000 of salary into a signing bonus.

In 2013 the Cowboys restructured Austin's contract to convert $5,892,000 of salary into a signing bonus. A void year in 2017 was added to the contract for salary cap purposes.

Now add all this to his original signing bonus, where are all these savings coming from by cutting this guy. Yeah Austin has this money in the bank, he's pretty well off.

Bottom line, Austin and Ware both played sub-par for the money. Of course they were better than Rat, and Spencer.

Keeping them is a gamble, maybe it pays off maybe it doesn't. Makes better sense to cut Ware than Austin, when you look at actual savings. Ware would love to restructure, and put that guaranteed money in the bank.

Glad somebody else will be making these hard decisions. You are talking about cutting 2 classy players from your team. The hit will cause locker room grumblings if you ask me. Plus I know Romo is a very close personal friend of Austins.

This is the real crime in "Dead Money." Last season it was Ratliff who was extended only because they needed the cap relief. Now this season Austin my be shed because of that same DM?

If true, they signed a player they didn't want and cut a player they wanted because of being over the salary cap and DM?
Hawk

Neither of these guys is gone yet, Stephen Jones said yesterday they are reviewing both guys contracts at the moment.

I really could see Romo taking a pay cut to keep Austin on the team, just something to think about.

Ware needs to soften his approach to whats going on, and take a cue from Austin and just STFU.
Hawk

Jones said on ESPN today there are reasons Ware might not be back next season
