Opinion: Lose to the Eagles and miss the playoffs! G-Day

Follow along with me.

Dallas is 9-4 and as we have talked of before, loses in nearly all tie breakers.

The Eagles are also 9-4 and if they beat the Cowboys Sunday night they will all but wrap up the division. Their last two games are against the Skins and Giants. Don't see a loss there, let alone two.

We are currently tied with Detroit and Seattle. Lurking behind is Arizona.

Detroit plays:

Vikings
@ Bears
@ GB

Even is they lose to GB, that would put them with 5 loses, same as Dallas if they lose to the Egales. We lose tie breaker to them.

Seattle plays:

Niners
@ Cardinals
Rams

I don't see them losing another game but even if they do, they are probable tied with the Lions or win their division.

Arizona plays:

@ Rams
Seattle
@ Niners

With three losses Arizona would need to lose out. It's not out of the question but they only need on win.

To assure themselves of getting in, Dallas needs to run the table. Lose one game of the final three and it becomes problematic.

If we lose one game and at this point it doesn't matter to who, we have to hope the Cardinals lose all three. I don't see any other scenario for the Cowboys to get in?

If we lose two games and go 10-6 we are done. The worst that Arizona can be is 10-6 and they along with Detroit hold tiebreakers against us.

It doesn't look good, but in a way a bunch of other teams are in the same fix.  Too many good teams and not enough spots.

All those 8-8 seasons where we were in a must win situation. Crazy, here we are once again win or go home.

But I really would not want to be facing this young team who doesn't quit. I know we have some guys who really want to get even. Cowboys will not embarrass themselves this time.
Hawk

Considering 90% of Cowboy nation had us finishing worse than 8-8 this year.

Well I'll still be glad we had a good season win or lose. Not going to get emotional about things til its over.

Is this the Game Day post for this week?

To early for game day post, but Bevo could edit it and add some magic touches, and I'll sticky it to Game Day.

Anybody who wants to do a Game Day post just let me know in a PM. I'm sure others would do a good job.
BevoMav

Not a game day. Just an opinion piece.

OK.....

I am usually pessimistic, but I really think Dallas has a chance to make this not only a game but give themselves a chance to win. I really do.

Not going to make a prediction yet. The Eagles looked horrible yesterday.
Hawk

I'll point out one more time, we can lose this game and still have a chance for the playoffs.

Win or lose, those who predicted 3-4-5 wins this season should have no complaints.

IRVING, Texas -- The Philadelphia Eagles' rushing attack apparently caught the Dallas Cowboys' defense by surprise on Thanksgiving.

"I would say we kind of underestimated them pretty much, you know what I mean?" Cowboys defensive end Jeremy Mincey said.

Actually, that's going to require some elaboration.

After all, LeSean McCoy is one of the most accomplished running backs in the NFL. He ran for a season-high 159 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries in the Eagles' rout of the Cowboys, but that kind of production can hardly be considered a surprise by anyone who has followed McCoy's career.

McCoy ranks third in the NFL with 6,541 rushing yards since the Eagles selected him in the second round of the 2009 draft. He won the league's rushing title with 1,607 yards last season. He led the league in rushing touchdowns with 17 in 2011.

It's not exactly breaking news that McCoy is a dangerous back. So how did the Dallas defense underestimate the Eagles' running game?

"It was the run scheme pretty much," Mincey said. "Like you would dominate your man and then you'd peek inside and that little bit of discipline, it was costing us big chunks of yardage. You've just got to remember what type of player you're dealing with and you've just got to be focused. Once you get in your lane, you stay in your lane and you don't move until the play is over or he's somewhere past you where you can get off and make a tackle.

"I think we'll get it this go-around."

The Cowboys have been thinking about this go-around almost constantly since walking off the AT&T Stadium turf after their embarrassing loss to the Eagles. Mincey said he wishes the rematch was tomorrow instead of Sunday, although he quickly acknowledged that the Cowboys needed a little bit more time to game plan.

"We'll show up with our play," Mincey said. "We're going to talk with our pads. And I'm so excited for all the men in the locker room, because they're excited for this game. That's all we've been talking about. Even during the Chicago game, I had to [say], ‘Hey, hush, man. We've got to finish beating Chicago and then we'll get to it.'

"But it's exciting, man. I'm very excited, definitely ready to play the Philadelphia Eagles."

Clearly McCoy is the guy we have to stop on Sunday. Clearly we had to stop Forte when we played Chicago. We shut his azz down, we have shut down McCoy before.

Yes this is an important game, but we need to show the league we belong. Beating the Eagles will send out the message

McCoy is a jerk and I hope he gets stuffed Sunday night.

Wagner: LeSean McCoy 'didn't want no part' of contact

It's clear the Seattle Seahawks weren't impressed with the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

After cornerback Richard Sherman told reporters that the Legion of Boom "never felt threatened" by a Chip Kelly passing attack stripped of DeSean Jackson, linebacker Bobby Wagner called out running back LeSean McCoy for shying away from contact.

"We really wanted to make sure he felt us every single time he got the ball," Wagner said this week, per KIRO-AM. "There was one play he fell back. It was me and him in the hole and he just fell down. He didn't want no part of the contact, so I think that probably got to him."

McCoy's paltry 50 yards off 17 carries came on a day when the Eagles piled up the fewest total yards in a game (139) during Kelly's heady reign in Philly.

The Eagles never found their groove against a Seahawks defense that looks every bit as stingy as last year's Super Bowl-winning juggernaut.

After all the early-season fretting over Seattle's hot-and-cold start, it really just came down to getting healthy. With Wagner, cornerback Byron Maxwell and safety Kam Chancellor humming again, anything feels possible for the defending champs

Cool video, had heard nothing like this before.

I do believe we have more talent than the Eagles. We just need to contain their gadget garbage.

We don't need a mod here, but we need a couple of guys to grow up. I can't stand people who fight just to fight.

I would tend to agree with you on the OFFENSIVE side of the ball. But, I simply cannot agree on the DEFENSIVE side of the ball.
Nightrider

Its no secret, if the offense can't control the ball thedefense will get killed. We did get a couple of guys back into the rotation this weak though on defense.  Patmon, and Hitchens

Brent is injured so we have already lost a wide body on the D-line.

The Cowboys officially called up defensive end Kenneth Boatright from the practice squad on Saturday, according to the NFL’s transactions.

The move had been expected, with coach Jason Garrett indicating Thursday that Boatright would be elevated to the roster, per the club’s website. However, the transaction was not officially announced by the league until Saturday.

The 24-year-old Boatright has been on the Cowboys’ practice squad all season. He notched nine tackles and one sack in the preseason for Dallas. A Southern Illinois product, Boatright (6-4, 253) is in his second NFL season. He was on the Seahawks’ injured reserve list in 2013.

Lets hope the Eagles play like Zigo's Packers this week? Actually I think they will cheers

I have to admit I was worried for awhile. But looked like the O-line wore them down.

Tony and Dez had a great night, but it was a game all the Cowboys showed up for.

Per ESPN:

Injury update: DeMarco Murray had X-rays taken on his hand after the game but it was not bandaged or covered in ice as he walked to the team bus after the game. Murray was hurt late in the game and Lance Dunbar got the Cowboys' last rush of the game.

"I'm good," Murray said.

Right tackle Doug Free missed the second half with an ankle injury and was replaced in the starting lineup by Jermey Parnell. The Cowboys believe Free will be OK but it was disconcerting that he was unable to continue to play.

Rookie right guard Zack Martin had X-rays on his right ankle and believed he would be OK. He thought it was a positive that he was able to finish the game.

The much maligned defense held the Eagles without a first down while the offense was going up 21-0.

That same defense got for four takeaways and 4 or was it 5 sacks.

Time to cut them some slack. At least for one game.

After watching that fight video, lo and behold, the Cowboys put up a fight. The defense is still on a learning curb with the Marnelli system.

I had the Cowboys winning at least 9, the only other team out there that impresses me is NE. I really can see us winning out. To bad Max is not  around anymore, we just might be seeing NE. in our future.
