Manziel to Austin

One of Tony Romo’s favorite targets through the years will now help Johnny Manziel get his career off the ground.

Cleveland announced Thursday afternoon that it has agreed to terms with Miles Austin. If he’s able to avoid the hamstring injuries that brought a premature end to his career in Dallas, the veteran receiver could be a key addition for the Browns in light of Josh Gordon’s impending suspension.

Austin spent the first eight years of his NFL career with the Cowboys. He, along with perennial Pro Bowl defender DeMarcus Ware, was released by the club in March.

Austin’s release freed-up $5.5 million on the club’s salary cap for 2014, a cushion that will hit the books June 1.

Austin finished his Cowboys career with 301 receptions for 4,481 yards and 34 touchdowns. He was among the league’s most productive receivers in ’09 and ’10 and was recognized with back-to-back Pro Bowl appearances.

The Cowboys rewarded Austin with a six-year, $54 million extension that included an $18 million guarantee during the 2010 season. The way the club structured the contract during that uncapped season _ a new collective bargaining agreement had not been reached _ resulted in a $10 million penalty from the NFL.

A salary cap reduction of $5 million for the ’11 and ’12 seasons is how the penalty was assessed. That was bad enough. But Austin’s production also began to decline.

A series of hamstring injuries forced the receiver to miss 11 games and compromised him in several others over the last three seasons. Austin finished with 24 receptions for 244 yards and no touchdowns last season and lost his starting job to rookie Terrance Williams.

Head coach Jason Garrett had left the door open for Austin to return, but that was never a serious consideration by either side. While Austin is gone he will not be forgotten from a salary cap standpoint, counting $5.236 million on the team’s payroll in 2015

I had my fingers crossed, that Miles would be picked up by the Pats. But I wish him well, and hope he's a pro-bowler again.

The media is talking good about Miles, can't wait to see what the so called Cowboy fans have to say today.
Nightrider

Oh Miles is being ripped all over the place, its the way of these Forum junkies to act like they know something.

Cleveland will see what a real WRer can do, Miles is the total package. I hope he can stay healthy, and loser fans can kiss his azz.
Hawk

I see the chatter about Miles on other sites. Whats so funny is most these self proclaimed experts only talk about the 90's Cowboys.

I've seen them rave about Alvin Harper like he was the greatest #2 WRer of all time.

I myself liked Alvin, he was a great team player like Miles. But Alvin had 1 good year, and set no records with the Cowboys. So when I see these losers posting, I just pass them by.

You don't win SB's with guys who are always thumping their chests. You win with guys who quietly go about doing their jobs. Nobody can ever smut Miles,  he always did his best and was never a media jerk.

I haven't watched Cleveland play a single game but I will now. Actually now I'll have to root for Manziel, that will be tough.....lmao

Breaking News:

Hawk has spit on the star and become a Brown. He even pledged his allegiance to Johnny F***ing Football.

In related news, Hawk starts "Shock Therapy" tomorrow.

BULLSHT....I'll always and forever be a Cowboys fan....the Browns are not in our Division....but... Miles is the only guy who got Bobby Hayes single game record for yardage (lets add an asterex to that). But to me he was an ultimate Cowboy till the end.

The guy simply was a class act, a healthy Austin is somebody you want on your team.

Dallas did the right thing in releasing him. The guy may go become a star in Cleveland, which I doubt, but he was useless toward the end here. When he wasn't injured he showed little of the spark he did earlier.
Nightrider

My only hope is that some time this season people don't say "hey I bet you wish Austin was still there instead of in Cleveland".

Good luck Miles, end of comment
Hawk

Well Miles got 2 Mil from the Browns, not bad when you consider he already had over 5 mil in the bank from the Cowboys.

Its been reported by the great Cowboy fans on the internet, that Miles sat out practice. I went to the Cleveland site and could find nothing about it.

There is no Manziel to Miles right now, Manziel is working with the 3rd string right now.

I read an article that quoted Street today.

The Kid seems like all class, he's to small to replace Miles as a good blocker downfield. But he's not a mouth, and I hope he does well.

The coach wants him to put on some weight. But I think that can change his playing speed.

Moss was a thin guy, they should just leave him alone and see how he plays.

The Cowboys Mantra has always been, it takes 3 yrs to learn the WRer position. Yet we will be starting only one guy who has those 3 yrs experience.

If Dez tries to do everything like Miles did, he'll just end up like Miles. The coaches tried to get Miles to slow down some but he went full speed on every play.

Miles never just ran his pattern, and then stopped, he ran all over the damn field trying to help Tony. Or he crossed the field to block for Dez, and his run blocking was damn good.

Just reading all the garbage I've read about him, shows that people don't have a clue what it takes to be a complete player at the WRer position.

Well maybe its time to start using all these TE's we have. For years all you hear is how good our TE's are, but the only one we use is Witten.

We might want to finally take a page from the Pats game, if our TE's are as good as they keep telling us.
