Didn't you say at one time you were a Celtics fan?  Difficult defeat.   Heart broken.  Left to wonder how things would have went had Perk not gone down.  Oh well.

Lakers

I picked the Lakers before the season started---not a big leap---

but Max those celtics cannot be compared to Celtics of old, maybe detriot of old. They simply are a bunch of thugs

Of course you picked the Laers to win... your a Lakers fan.   I didn't think the Celtics had a chance when they entered the playoffs, but was pleasantly surprised at how they did.  One less injury, and I think that 'band of thieves' would have beat your team in 6 to make it 2 out of 3..  That would have made them at least comparable to the Celtics of old.    But that being said, it is never the exact same, and since Red is dead, I don't expect anything like the Celtics of old to ever exist again.

Just because you root for a team that doesn't like to play physical basketball, doesn't mean the physical teams are bad.   That is just plain disrespecful.  Heck, I guess you would feel that way about that Pistons team because they beat up on the Lakers way back when.  But they won two championships... which isn't all that bad.   I know it means nothing to someone like you who is a Yankee and Lakers fan and is spoiled with championships every other year....   Too bad that with that in mind, you can't at least give the other teams that win their just dues when they do manage to win.

I won't argue the obvious....and I don't spend much time putting teams down

Seems you are very touchy about your sports teams, but I'm always willing to back up what I say with facts and articles.

If you think that detroit wasn't the dirtiest team ever, I guess you never saw them play!

1988-89 Detroit Pistons: The Most Hated Team in NBA History
sports.yahoo.com — Some teams are hated more than others. Some teams just get so far under everyone's skin that they become the team everyone loves to hate, driving away casual fans in droves. And according to Sports Illustrated, one NBA team in the 60 year history of the league stands head and shoulders above all other basketball teams — the 1988-89 Detroit Pistons.

Okay keep it clean and simple ... state your case and move on.

The argument who is the greatest and what team is the greatest can be an on going debate.

At no tome in history now or in the future will any team accomplish what the the Celtics did during Russells day. A play here and there and Bird and co. may not of lost to the Lakers. On the same page what would have the lakers done had Chamberlain had the supporting cast Russell had.

I personal thought the Celtics over came alot of odds just to make the playoffs. At the midway point I even stated they would not if they continued to play the Way they were. Just like the Boys a year ago, they were decimated with injuries. Yet found away to win enough and played their hearts out to reach the finals.

Another thought to ponder is had the Thunder jelled a little sooner they would have won the division and got some rest that would have been well deserved. Yet they took it to the Lakers and a play here and there and they very well could have been gone 1st round. That is with a very well rest and healthy team.

Personally I do not look for the Lakers to be in it next year, and all better look out for the Celtics foe a few years. The Big Man will go out a Champion.

And yes Hawk before the season ever started you stated the Lakers would win it all .... Kudos to you and the adult-ting kobe.

Max do post again and do so often, and by the way been a fan of the Patriots since the Vataha,Grogan, era ........

I don't put much stock into that type of crap.  I don't know much about basketball, so I will go back to something I know about.  Rodney Harrison had been voted the dirtiest player of all time for many years in a row, and anyone who watched the game knew that wasn't the case.    He gets that reputation because of one play... back at the beginning of his career, when he took out Trent Green.   He has said many times how much he regrets that play, and has also said it wasn't intentional.   I see it as the same type of play as many other cheap shot artists in the league.  He knew it could cause something like that, but he figured it probably wouldn't. So he decided to put it in the back of his mind.  But one difference between Rodney and many others who have done similar things (say like Bernard and his hit on Brady) is that he realized the error of his ways after that.  After that, while Rodney was still a hard hitter, he was very careful to make sure that while the players felt it, they didn't get injured over it.  He tackled the  right way.  He didn't go for the knees.  He didn't try to take players out of the game.  Became one of the best in the business.   But no one wanted to be hit by Rodney, because they knew it would be one to remember.

So he gets the reputation as the dirtiest player in football.   That is the type of stock I put on such idiotic polls as the one you mentioned above about that Detroit team.   The Patriots that won those 3 Superbowls were, IMHO, one of the classiest Superbowl winning teams ever...  they didn't do any smack talking off the field.  They didn't run their mouths to the media.  They just got out on the field and played the game... the way football is supposed to be played.   And they found ways to win.  Yet everyone hated them.  And they like to use that spygate bullcrap as an excuse, but I remember.  Even before spygate came around, they were a hated team.   The media was trying to find a way to bring them down.   Maybe it was the way that Belichick handled the media... basically he handled them by giving them no information.  Oh, did that piss them off.    All I know is that just because everyone says something is true doesn't make it true.  People believe what they want to believe.

But you have me pegged.  Didn't watch the Pistons then.  My Celtics weren't in it back then, so I didn't care.  So I don't know or care if the Pistons were a dirty team back then.  I do watch the Celtics now, and they sure as heck aren't cheap shot artists.  But a team like the Lakers who likes to wear the Tu Tus, and cry when anyone plays them physical might feel that way.   I see this Celtics team as very much like the Patriots team I was just talking about.  They get out there and play, and they play hard.   They play good defense, and they find ways to win against all types of odds.  When that good defense burns another team, they call it cheap.

But your Lakers tried to beat the Celtics using the Celtics method... hard defense.   And it looked like it was going to work.  But then they made the proper adjustments, and showed the Lakers who was boss.  The Celts had the Lakers all figured out again, and it looked like another championship.   Then Perkins went down, and that was that.  They just couldn't recover from that one.  Perk was their big rebounder.  While they didn't need spectacular rebounding, they needed some rebounding.    Their defense makes it so that a team's percentage of shooting against them is very low... but that doesn't help if that team is getting shot after shot.   They just had no one to replace Perk.  Funny, everyone talked about the Big 3 as being the irreplacable ones.   No one thinks much of Perk... but it was Perk being out that killed them in the end.  He has to have been one of the most underrated centers in the game.

Anyway, all the written articles (or what you call facts) you can post in the world aren't going to convince me otherwise.  The media paints the picture how they want to...  they can paint over the bullcrap, but it still smells the same!  ; )

Haven't really seen or read what you were saying. But I once was a big NBA fan, and I watched a lot of Basketball. The Pistons were in fact a dirty team, Lambeer is still known as the dirtiest player ever.

But I really haven't seen enough of the Celtics to make a call. You are right I was pretty much going by what I read. But I did talk with another Boston fan, and he said " they do a lot of grabbing and holding, they don't play the kind of ball most people enjoy watching".

But I'm not really pasionate about pro basketball anymore anyway. I just try and keep up for conversation sake.
