Goose Gosselin's Second Draft

Teams have discovered that if you donít have the big bodies, they are too expensive to acquire in free agency. Take for example, the $100 million the Washington Redskins paid for under-
achieving defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth. So get linemen cheaper at the front end of their careers ó in the draft.

The defensive line board is rich at the top but starts thinning out at the end of the second round. The offensive line starts thinning out at the end of the third round. So if you want the big bodies, you need to draft them early.

My final mock draft will be printed Thursday based on how I see the draft playing out. My first mock draft, printed last Sunday, was based on my draft board of the top 32 players.

Todayís mock draft focuses more on team need.

1. Carolina: Cam Newton, QB, Auburn

Heisman Trophy winner becomes face of the franchise

2. Denver: Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn

AFCís worst pass rush gets inside push

3. Buffalo: Marcel Dareus, DT, Alabama

You need big people to compete with the Patriots and Jets

4. Cincinnati: Von Miller, OLB, Texas A

Someone to chase AFC North QBs Roethlisberger and Flacco

5. Arizona : A.J. Green, WR, Georgia

Cardinals finally replace Anquan Boldin

6. Cleveland : Julio Jones, WR, Alabama

Colt McCoy needs a go-to guy

 7. San Francisco: Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU

The 49ers in dire need of defensive playmakers

8. Tennessee: Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina

Someone to chase AFC South QBs Manning and Schaub

9. Cowboys: J.J. Watt, DE, Wisconsin

The prototypical end for a 3-4 defensive alignment

10. Washington: Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska

19. New York Giants: Nate Solder, OT, Colorado

Like the Cowboys, Giants need to get younger up front

23. Philadelphia: Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin

Andy Reid loves linemen in the first round

I like the Goose, but I think he's wrong in a number of places. I like Watt as our guy, but I still think we can get him at #12. I'll wait to see Goose's final, I think he'll get closer than he is now.

I get it but..this is a lead up to who he thinks they will pick..

1st mock draft...he uses his top 32 and drafts them
2nd mock draft..he goes by need
3rd mock draft..that comes out Thursday, the first day of the draft is who he thinks they will pick..

I will put it up early..

BTW..A good place to follow the draft..1310/The Ticket in Dallas is the only local radio station in the country to have live wall to wall coverage..

It is hosted by Norm Hitzges and will feature Bob Sturm, JJ Taylor of the Dallas Morning News and the Goose..Great stuff and a hell of a lot better than ESPN..One word of caution, there is a delay so they are not synced to television..

Thanks for the info

Cam will be a bust...Carolina needs are many, they are looking for a trade. I understand what the Goose is saying, but he's wrong on so many levels. He has teams picking people they don't need aNd passing on the ones they do need.

Well he hit 92% of his picks in the third mock draft last year..Better than any of the so called experts..BTW you can pick against him on Dallas Morning News and win money..since he is wrong on so many levels, it should be easy..

I thought Kiper was the King last year? Also I'm not saying he won't have his act together when he posts on Thursday. Then we can compare his 2nd against his 3rd.

Is that 92% of the top 10-top 32 or all 7 rounds, which would be impossible.

On a normal year the first overall pick would have already inked a deal long before draft day. Its impossible to really pick a good mock. If the Panthers do take Cam, then our picks might hold up. But if the Panthers trade, then it will create a dominon effect which will change the whole senario.
