Garrett, not coaching for his job this week

Jerry Jones: Jason Garrett isn’t coaching for his job
Posted by Josh Alper on December 24, 2013, 9:55 AM EST
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was on the radio Tuesday morning, but he didn’t have much to addfrom Monday’s assessment of quarterback Tony Romo’s status.

Jones reiterated that Romo has not been ruled out of Sunday’s game and that he’s going through treatment in hopes of being cleared by doctors in time to face the Eagles. Jones wouldn’t discuss more about Romo’s medical condition, citing HIPAA regulations, choosing to leave his status a “question mark” as the week unfolds.

Jones was willing to say a bit more about coach Jason Garrett, however. Jones, who said he wouldn’t give repeated votes of confidence in the coach, said that Garrett is not coaching for his job this weekend.

“He has a bright future with the Cowboys,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan, via Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

There’s no timeframe on that future, of course, and Jones has the right and the ability to change his mind at any moment. For now, though, the Cowboys have remained steadfast when it comes to Garrett remaining on the job whether or not they beat the Eagles this weekend

I don't think people really get it, the Garrett will be fired is a media hype. Garrett is the best coach they've had forever, this team has not ever quit on him.

JJ may not do a lot of things right but keeping Garrett is one of the things he is doing right.

The real problem with Garrett is the GM, who constantly puts the Cowboys in a hole. Just look at the Ratliff and Spencer contracts.

How can a head coach function with players like that. Not to mention the entire coaching job this season, once again with nothing but couch potato's.

I think you have to be an ***** not to get that the Cowboys once again have put them selves in a position to win the East.

The whole conversation about Garrett is a waste of time, sooner or later the players have to do their jobs.

Theres no way a coach should lose his job, with the injuries we've had. We are still in the race and I give credit to the offense for this happening.

JG is the offensive coach, and they are still in the game because of him.

Not afraid to speak his mind, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said that Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett shouldn't be fired.

Cuban said before Thursday night's Mavericks game with the San Antonio Spurs that replacing a head coach is "the hardest thing in professional sports," as reported by Dwain Price of the Fort-Worth Star Telegram. "I think Jerry would be quite crazy to fire Jason Garrett -- not that he would. The hardest thing to do, and I've said this before, is hire a head coach."

There's been a lot of talk about whether or not Garrett will have a job next year. The Cowboys would miss the playoffs for the fourth year in a row if they lose to the Philadelphia Eagles in the last game of the season.

A source told ESPN's Ed Werder that Garrett would be fired if the team doesn't make the playoffs via Twitter:

But on the contrary, owner Jerry Jones addressed the issue telling 105.3 The Fan, a sports radio station in Dallas, that Garrett's job is not on the line. Jeff Cavanaugh of 105.3's G-Bag Nation reported this via Twitter:

Maybe Jones is trying not create more of a distraction for the team as they prepare for the final game of the season on Sunday, but there are always distractions when it comes to the Cowboys. From one Dallas sports owner to another, Cuban hopes that Jones doesn't make the mistake of firing Garrett if the Cowboys do end up losing to the Eagles.

With a loss to the Eagles on Dec. 29, the Cowboys would finish the 2013 regular season with an 8-8 record. Garrett would have a regular-season record of 29-27 in just three seasons as head coach of the 'Boys.

I read this by Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.

"I think Jerry would be crazy to fire Jason Garrett," the Mavs owner said before the Thursday night loss to the Spurs at American Airlines Center. "The hardest thing do - and I've said this before - is hire a head coach. I think unless a coach loses the locker room, regardless of the sport, or there's just something fundamentally wrong, you go with it.

Then you go out and get the best players you can and you go to war. I'm not an NFL expert by a long shot, but I don't seem to see any of those while watching the Cowboys games as a fan."

In his 14-year tenure as Mavs boss, Cuban has fired only one coach - Avery Johnson lost the locker room in '08. Now, would Cuban fired Jerry as his GM? Of course.

I think you and El Kabong agree lol ^
LoneStar

We all agree, you have to be a ***** to try and blame Garrett for what has happened. The offense has played good enough to be in the play offs

From my vantage point, the offense tends to underperform for long stretches of games, which hurts us.  It's not like we have a top ranked offense in the league.  To me, if the Cowboys don't show up tonight, Red Jesus is fired.  I want him fired regardless of the outcome, assuming we don't win a playoff game.  I have not faith in the man to lead this team, and late game implosions are the reason for that.

First of all Jesus is my savior, has nothing to do with Garrett. Cowboys will win tonight, and Jesus will have nothing to do with it.

I pray to God you're right.   cheers

Its just a football game, I pray my friends and you are still alive tomorrow.
