Free Agency Coaches

Yes everybody believes Garrett will be staying. JJ said the plan was to talk with his coaches today about new contracts.

I myself don't think this was the way JJ should have done this. Garrett will be sought after by a number of teams. However he has built what we have from scratch, so I think he'll stay.

Six teams interested in Cowboys assistant Bill Callahan

Posted by Darin Gantt on January 12, 2015, 10:53 AM EST

The Cowboys have plenty of free agency decisions to make, long before the free agency period for players opens in March.

With a number of their top coaches on expiring contracts (including head coach Jason Garrett), the Cowboys are going to have to act fast on a number of them.

According to Ed Werder of ESPN.com, six teams are interested in offensive coordinator/line coach Bill Callahan, whose deal is also up.

Callahan hasn’t called plays this year, that’s passing game coordinator Scott Linehan.

But he’s a guy who’s had success at what he does, and that there’s a market for him is reasonable.

He just adds another name to Jerry Jones’ growing list of things that need to be addressed quickly.

Callahan wants out of Dallas. He tried to leave after last season but Jerry wouldn't let him interview with other teams.

Lot of folks are reporting that Marinelli is on his way to Tampa to reunite with his guy pal Lovie Smith. Earlier this morning Lovie said the reports are wrong. No decisions have been made with any of his coaching staff.

Lovie has to deny the rumors, the Coaches are still under contract for 7 days. Otherwise we could get into teams tampering.

So everything being said so far is nothing but rumors.

Lovie hasn't fired anybody, so at the moment there's no position for him in Tampa.

Appears Marinelli is staying in Dallas

Just saw this in the Dallas Morning News:

Quote:
Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said Tuesday that Marinelli has told him that he wants to remain with the franchise.

“I would absolutely love to see Rod Marinelli stay here,” Garrett said during his end of the year press conference. “He did a great job for us.”

Great news!

I think it is for 3 years but I do know he now carries the title of Offensive Coordinator.

Jason Garrett said Frank Pollack will now be offensive line coach in place of Bill Callahan. Pollack been asst OL coach for 2 years.

Calihan has left for the Redskins. Washington so wants to be us.

Calahan is an *****, for making this move. I hope the new line coach can teach better pass protection.

Despite some reports indicating that Cowboys defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli was planning a return to Tampa Bay to work with Lovie Smith, the newly re-signed coach says he never planned on leaving Dallas.

“I just love it here,” Marinelli said. “I love football and this place, it just reeks with tradition and winning and wanting to win, wanting to be the very, very best. I think that’s as exciting as anything.”

After helping turn the defense around this season, Marinelli is looking to build on his work moving forward.

“I think we laid really a strong foundation of what we want in terms of how hard we want to play, the discipline of the system, physical and takeaways,” Marinelli said.

Following the extension of Marinelli’s contract, SportsDay’s Brandon George wrote that losing the coordinator would have been catastrophc for the Cowboys.

“No one in the NFL teaches the Tampa 2 defense like he does. He’s lauded by his peers and players as a master motivator who gets the absolute most out of his pupils,” George wrote.

“That was on display in 2014, when Marinelli took a bunch of no-name defensive linemen and had them producing by playing with maximum effort on every snap.”
