I've been reading what the douc bags and soap box guys have to say about changing the Redskins name.

Me I could give a damn, and its not a Cowboy fans problem. But I grew up in Arizona, went to school with Indians, played sports with Indians. We were all friends and I went to the reservation many times.

The Indians even had homes where I lived, there was never any controversy. But to me its an Indian fight, if they choose not to want the Redskins to have that name. Like I said previously means nothing to me!

I also grew up idolizing Jim Thorpe and Bobby Hayes, race of these guys never crossed my mind. No greater honor could ever be bestowed on a man then to have everybody who enters the Hall of Fame have to pass Jim's statue by.

I believe only people with some sort of agenda start controversy. Us older guys who knew and saw these guys perform, well listening to soap box punks turns my stomach.

The Hall of Fame is a place all football fans can sit and reflect on days gone by. So if we allow the Redskins to lose their name, what do we do with their Hall of Famers?

It matters not but I am a white Swedish guy

Yes we have all seen this worthless chatter that is really agenda driven.

Football players and all athletes of any sport, should have to watch Jim Thorpe All American. When they think they are all the greatest ever, his life story would put them in their place.

I think you brought up some good points, but they are crying the Redskins are racists not the rest of the NFL.

Yet the NFL endorses the name, and actual Indians helped design the Logo.

Seems to me mostly to be a problem with agenda losers who have nothing else to do with their lives. Its football, pick a battle that really needs to be won. This whole issue is getting real stale!!!!

Is this more an East coast problem, its not something making the news in the West. I could be wrong but have really not heard any controversy about it in the West.

Seems to me they would protest the word Indian long before they get to Redskins. Had Columbus not been lost, they would have never been called Indians.

U.S. Patent office cancels Redskins trademark registration, says name is disparaging

BY THERESA VARGAS June 18 at 9:56 AM
The United States Patent and Trademark Office has  canceled the Washington Redskins trademark registration , calling the football team’s name “disparaging to Native Americans.” The landmark case, which appeared before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, was filed on behalf of five Native Americans. It was the second time such a case was filed.

“This victory was a long time coming and reflects the hard work of many attorneys at our firm,” said lead attorney Jesse Witten, of Drinker Biddle & Reath. Federal trademark law does not permit registration of trademarks that “may disparage” individuals or groups or “bring them into contempt or disrepute.

” The ruling pertains to six different trademarks associated with the team, each containing the word “Redskin.” “We are extraordinarily gratified to have prevailed in this case,” Alfred Putnam Jr., the chairman of Drinker Biddle & Reath, said. “The dedication and professionalism of our attorneys and the determination of our clients have resulted in a milestone victory that will serve as an historic precedent.”

Not sure at the moment how this will effect the Redskins, but I'm sure they should be able to appeal this decision.

Never head a native American refer to themselves as redskins, and bunch of white guys saying they have no problem with it, doesn't make it right.

Never in my life have I heard Indians refered to as Redskins except in a few movies.

The Patent office can do what they want, still won't change the copy write laws. I guess this will cost millions and is really....hey who cares when the people who started this stupid crap are dead.
